How Do I Reduce the Size of a PDF File?

First, you will need to have access to an university approved .PDF file converter or handler with the capability to perform file reduction such as Adobe or Foxit.  These instructions explain how to reduce a file size using Adobe.

If you need to obtain a license for Adobe Acrobat DC, please submit a ticket to dasa-tech-help@ncsu.edu with your computer name. Here are the instructions on how to find your computer name.

In Adobe Acrobat Pro DC:

Click on File.

Click on Reduce File Size.

A new window with the name “save As Reduced Size PDF” will open, change the file name if needed, then click “Save”.

If you did not change the name of the new reduced file, a window will pop up asking you if you want to replace the existing/original file. Please keep in mind that if you proceed with saving the changes at this point, the original file will be reduced.
