How do I get a Google Addon or Extension Approved?

Google Addons are reviewed by the Office of Information Technology’s Security & Compliance team and the University’s Data Stewards. The process is rigorous because Google Addons and Extensions cannot be approved for use by a single group. Approved add-ons and extensions are available universitywide once they are approved.

Many Google Addons require permission to read, write, and edit files and folders to which the addon account has access. As a result, it’s virtually impossible to evaluate the institutional risk to secure data that may be accessible to any given faculty or staff member within NC State’s Google Workspace. Consequently, the Data Stewards have opted to ensure the fidelity of Google data by strictly protecting the services that have access to it.

Please work with your Strategic Partner should you wish to proceed with this review process. Addons are only ever provided with a single-year approval and must be submitted for re-evaluation each year. Should an add-on vendor become compromised, the Office of Information Technology reserves the right to revoke access even if the add-on or extension requires a paid subscription.
