AdminMe Sunsetting in 2024

APRIL 17, 2024 – DASA Technology Services will sunset the AdminMe service on October 1st, 2024. AdminMe was developed in 2018 by DASA Technology in consultation with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) as a temporary solution to ease the transition to RUL 08.00.18 – Endpoint Protection Standard.

Since then, DASA Technology has been able to gather data and better understand the administrative needs of our colleagues.  We have incorporated the most common administrative tasks requested into self-service tools such as Software Center for Windows computers or JAMF Self-Service for Apple computers. Several other tasks that previously required administrative rights are no longer necessary, such as installing the university fonts. At the close of the 2022-23 Fiscal Year, 4% of DASA employees requested access to AdminMe. We saw just 166 individual requests to perform a task as an administrator on computers. Approximately 20% of those requests came from a single AdminMe user who helped our team test and troubleshoot the software. This underscores how infrequently administrative functionality is used throughout the year.

As a result of the low usage and reduced need for this tool following the full implementation of the Endpoint Protection Standard, DASA Technology will sunset this tool according to the following schedule:

  • May 1st, 2024 – All registrations for the AdminMe Reporter and Training certification for the 2023-24 year will close. Anyone still enrolled will be allowed to complete their training if they wish.
  • November 1st, 2024 – Instead of the annual reminder email to renew AdminMe rights, existing AdminMe users will be notified of the application removal date.
  • December 1st, 2024 – AdminMe will be uninstalled from all computers, and all existing AdmineMe users will no longer be able to log into this tool.

DASA Technology Strategic Partners have been working with units where administrative rights are necessary for the operational safety of their programs to make alternate plans so that services remain uninterrupted. If you have a specific programmatic need related to the operation of your unit where the loss of AdminMe rights will pose a significant issue, please email dasa-tech-help@ncsu.edu, and we’ll be happy to discuss it further.
