MARCH 27, 2024 – On the afternoon of March 27th, 2024, the Office of Information Technology (OIT) completed an unannounced update to a setting with Apple Inc. that reserved the @ncsu.edu domain exclusively for administrative purposes with AppleIDs.
This change generated automated emails from Apple (appleid@apple.com) with the subject line “Update Apple ID” to anyone with an AppleID using their @ncsu.edu email account. We immediately began receiving questions about the validity of the email and asking for information on how to handle this request.
The email looked like this:
A summary of the process is to change your AppleID to unityID@unity.ncsu.edu from unityID@ncsu.edu if you need to retain your AppleID for work-related purposes. If you used your @ncsu.edu email account as your AppleID for personal reasons, please change your AppleID to an email address unrelated to your work here at NC State.
