DASA Goes Meeting Free July 3 – 7

The special pilot initiative is meant to enhance well-being.

During the week of July 3 – 7, 2023, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs is going meeting-free. Vice Chancellor and Dean Doneka Scott has asked DASA Leadership to avoid scheduling 1:1s, internal meetings, unit meetings, and non-essential gatherings. Student appointments and external meetings can still be attended as necessary.

Benefits of the initiative include more time for deep work, strategic planning, and innovative thinking; promotion of alternative modes of collaboration, such as asynchronous communication and collaborative document sharing; and focus on personal well-being and work-life balance.

In lieu of normal meeting schedules, staff and faculty are asked to prioritize individual tasks and projects during the week, consider the necessity of meetings, and explore alternative means of addressing issues.

The division will assess the success of this pilot week and may implement more meeting-free weeks in the future.
