Windows 11 Upgrade – Status Update

Upgrading to windows 11

MAY 20, 2024 – In March, DASA Technology announced the upgrade of all DASA Windows computers to Windows 11 by the start of the Fall term on August 18th, 2024. We also allowed all faculty and staff to upgrade their machines on their schedule. We worked to ensure faculty machines were updated before Spring term finals began. All newly purchased computers since Fall 2023 that shipped with Windows 11 were left at Windows 11 to help make this transition even easier. Implementing the upgrade to Windows 11 ensures our computers will continue to receive the latest security updates from Microsoft in the future.

As announced in March, we will begin scheduling automated updates for staff this week for all remaining Windows-based computers now that the spring term has concluded. This is a phased rollout, with a small batch of computers upgrading each night through August. You still have the opportunity to upgrade on your schedule, though!

The automated computer upgrades are scheduled to take place between 11 pm and 4 am. For the upgrade to occur, your computer needs to be powered on and connected to the campus network. If you have a computer at home, you can leave it powered on and connect it to the VPN overnight. Please note that you do not need to log in to the computer for the automated upgrade to take place.

Remember, DASA Technology is here to support you every step of the way. If you encounter any issues during the upgrade process, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at dasa-tech-help@ncsu.edu!
