FEB. 19, 2026 – NC State is upgrading the system used to manage all Apple laptops, desktops, tablets, and phones. This change, which DASA Technology learned about in December, requires us to migrate all Apple devices to the new management system in summer 2026.
Unfortunately, a small number of our oldest Apple computers, those with Intel chips inside, will not be compatible with the migration to the new management system. Apple stopped making Intel-based specific models in 2020, so they are no longer covered in the device lifecycle at this point.
The good news is that:
- Almost all Apple devices across our division have already been upgraded to the newer Apple Silicon technology.
- For these newer devices, the upgrade to the new management system will be a simple matter of upgrading to the latest operating system and should result in better overall management performance.
In the coming weeks, a DASA Technology partner will contact any unit that still has an Intel-based Apple computer. You will need to discuss whether the computer needs to be replaced or if it can be retired from service.
We will share more information about the switch to the new management system once the Office of Information Technology provides DASA Technology with those details.
