MAR. 10, 2025 – The Office of Information Technology notified DASA Technology that the DUO SMS Messaging feature (text messaging) will be shut down on July 1st, 2025.
When two-factor authentication was launched at NC State, DUO allowed three options for two-factor authentication. The first was via a usb-key, the second was via the DUO push notification on the smartphone application, and the final was via a text message using the SMS messaging feature.
The Office of Information Technology must pay for each SMS message sent when using this service. Consequently, all NC State employees must convert their usage to either a compatible usb-key, or to the DUO push notification via the DUO smartphone application.
