Adobe Acrobat Pro Update

Adobe-Update

MARCH 21, 2022 – DASA Technology Services announced in early January that single-user licenses for Adobe Acrobat Pro would no longer be available beginning in July 2022. We continue to work with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to discuss the budget implications of this university-wide Adobe licensing change.

Everyone at the university will still have access to the Adobe Acrobat Reader application on Windows and the Preview application on macOS, which allows you to open and read PDF documents. You will continue to use this application to interact with fillable PDF forms.

However, some DASA employees must complete more complex PDF tasks such as combining many non-PDF file formats into a single PDF, encrypting PDF files, or creating complex PDF file-formats, including fillable forms. In many cases, these employees only have access to Adobe Acrobat Pro instead of the full Adobe Creative Cloud suite of applications. For these users, the university approved an equivalent alternative called FoxIt Editor Pro.

Employees who currently have a full Adobe Creative Cloud subscription authorized by the DASA Marketing and Communications department will continue to receive the same Creative Cloud suite subscription.

Final pricing for this change has not yet been determined and will depend on the participation of other colleges and units within the university. Consequently, we are sending this note as an interim update and will send another notice once we know the pricing. Our preference is to pay for the FoxIt Editor Pro licenses centrally. The extent to which we can accommodate this will be dependent upon the pricing received by the university.

We appreciate your flexibility and want you to know that we worked closely with OIT to advocate for the best possible solution to this change from Adobe. The feedback we received from our survey was overwhelmingly positive. Many use the Acrobat Pro tool, so we are happy that FoxIt Editor Pro was selected given its pedigree and good reviews.
